BEEDS AND STORIES
Beads have an ancient history having travelled with mankind from birth to death almost from the beginning of man’s journey. They were given as gifts when a child was born and at the end of their life buried with them. Beads were worn as a talisman and for protection and worn when hunting to take on the power of the animal. The earliest shell beads are about 80 000 years old. Beads tell us much about the development of early man. His ability to think symbolically is reflected in the use of beads as symbolic forms. How they are made, tell us about the technical advancement of mankind When one sees a bead one can ponder who made it, how they made it, where the beads has travelled from and through whose hands they have come?
Many tribes around the world today still wear beads telling us much about the person, their social status, if they are wealthy, married etc. They are a symbolic form of communication.

It was working with beads for many years, making jewellery and selling it that I learned about their stories.
So now I offer beading and storytelling where we get a chance to look at the story of beads and how our stories relate to them. We create a piece of jewellery while creating our autobiographical story through the beads we chose.
Working with creative writing, breath, and aspects of narrative therapy you will create your own special piece of jewellery, unique to you from a carefully selected array of beads from all over the world. Togther we will share the journey of story.
